Elden Ring: Why Can’t I Use Spells?

Using spells in Elden Ring can be tricky for new players. If you find yourself unable to cast spells, follow these steps to ensure everything is set up correctly:

Equip the Correct Catalyst:
For sorceries, you need a staff. For incantations, you need a sacred seal. Make sure you have the right catalyst equipped in either hand.

Meet Attribute Requirements:
Check the requirements for the spell. Sorceries typically require Intelligence, while incantations require Faith or Arcane. Ensure your character meets these attribute requirements.

Memorize Spells at a Site of Grace:
Use a Site of Grace to memorize your spells. Open the menu, select “Memorize Spells,” and add your chosen spells to the available slots.

Check Your FP (Focus Points):
Casting spells consumes FP. Make sure you have enough FP to cast the spell. If your FP is low, use a flask to replenish it.

Select and Cast the Spell:
Use the D-pad to select the spell you want to cast. Then, press the appropriate button (R1/RB or L1/LB) to cast the spell.

If you’ve followed these steps and still can’t cast spells, double-check your equipment and stats. Sometimes, a minor detail can be the issue.
