Baldur’s Gate 3 is packed with enough twists, turns, and jaw-dropping moments to keep players hooked for hundreds of hours. Whether you’re a newcomer or a die-hard fan of the original games, there’s always something lurking just beneath the surface. A sly reference, a cleverly hidden area, or an unexpected interaction that can completely change the way a scene plays out.

Every great RPG has its share of tucked-away locations, and Baldur’s Gate 3 is no different. Some require high Perception rolls, some demand clever puzzle-solving, and others just need a bit of old-fashioned luck.
One of the most satisfying hidden spots I’ve come across is in the Underdark. If you manage to find the Spectator’s lair near the Myconid Colony, there’s a tiny ledge leading to a concealed cache of magical loot. Stuff you’d probably never notice without a keen eye. The game is littered with these sorts of areas, rewarding players who explore off the beaten path.
Another gem is within the Moonrise Towers Prison. There’s a tiny crawlspace that opens a new way to escape. Something I completely missed on my first run. Instead of smashing your way out, this route offers a stealthier exit, making for an entirely different gameplay experience.
References to Classic Baldur’s Gate and D&D Lore
Larian Studios didn’t hold back when it came to paying homage to the original Baldur’s Gate series and the wider Dungeons & Dragons universe. Veterans of the franchise will recognize the name Boo. Yes, the very same miniature giant space hamster from the original games. Referenced slyly if you poke around long enough in certain dialogues. Even Minsc, the beloved berserker, gets a proper nod with not-so-subtle hints about a future appearance.
D&D fans will also love spotting lore tidbits hidden in books and NPC chatter. One of my favorites has to be a passing reference to Acererak, the infamous lich from Tomb of Annihilation, which most players would miss if they don’t sift through certain tomes scattered throughout the game.
Developer Easter Eggs and Fun Surprises
Larian Studios has a habit of sneaking in playful references for those who take their time exploring. One standout is the seemingly random appearance of a “cow” in Act 2. Except, spoiler alert, it’s not an ordinary cow. If you talk to it using Speak with Animals, you’ll learn it’s actually been polymorphed, revealing a hilarious backstory that’s both tragic and absurdly funny.
Then there’s the infamous “Dev Room” that data miners discovered. A small area packed with inside jokes from the developers, including messages to players and goofy props. While you won’t find this in a normal playthrough, it’s a testament to Larian’s lighthearted nature and attention to detail.
Hidden NPC Interactions with Unique Dialogue and Outcomes
Some of the best moments in BG3 come from talking to the right NPC at the right time. One of the game’s more well-hidden interactions involves a seemingly unimportant tiefling child at the Druid Grove. If you help her in Act 1, she later appears in Act 3 with a surprising development that subtly changes how certain dialogues play out in Baldur’s Gate.
Another brilliant moment is with Ragzlin, the goblin boss in the Shattered Sanctum. If your character has high enough charisma and plays along with his delusions of grandeur, you can end up never fighting him at all. The number of ways to handle encounters like these means every playthrough feels fresh.

Even after multiple playthroughs, Baldur’s Gate 3 keeps finding ways to surprise. These secrets, Easter eggs, and alternate outcomes aren’t just for show. They shape how players experience the story.
